We are looking to appoint a new Trustee to the Toby Henderson Trust, the only charity in the North East dedicated to early intervention with autistic children aged 2 – 7.
Toby Henderson Trust
The trust was established in 1999 by founder and director, Lesley Henderson, who herself experienced a lack of support for parents and carers of children with autism. Our approach is centred on post-diagnosis early intervention. We aim to increase the communication, life skills and confidence of children and young people so that they can have a greater degree of independent living later in life.
Our service users tell us early intervention can transform the life of a child…
“Our son couldn’t speak. 2 years later and hours and hours of therapy, he could ask for food, name colours, numbers and all his alphabet”
And transform the life of parents, cares and families…….
“They helped my child communicate with me for the first time. They helped give my child a voice. This was a massive positive in a very dark time. We felt there was light at the end of a very dark tunnel!”
During 2016, we moved into new accommodation at Earth Balance in Bedlington, Northumberland. This gave us a wider scope for the observations, interventions and support we can offer. We continue to work in partnership with the NHS, expanding our services even further. We’re hoping for an even more successful 2017, adding further skills to our Board of Trustees.
The Ideal Trustee
One of our Trustees stepped down at the end of 2016 due to health reasons. The remaining five Trustees have agreed the main skills we need to add to complement our existing skills knowledge.
We’re looking for someone who can help shape our future as we grow as a charity, managing a larger complement of services.
We hope you will bring a passion for social enterprise, as we seek to be a more self-sufficient and sustainable charity, able to embark on more ambitious projects.
You’ll have experience in business and/or the charity sector and have an entrepreneurial flare.
Some experience of working with people with autism would be beneficial, but it is not essential.
What is more important is that you are committed to our quarterly trustee meetings and playing an important role in the governance and oversight of The Toby Henderson Trust. You will also be able to discuss issues affecting the running of the charity with the Chair, other Trustees and the Project Director.
This is an unpaid role, however your expenses will be covered.
How To Apply
Please apply in writing to email@example.com with your cv and a covering letter explaining why you are interested in the role and what skills, knowledge and experience you will bring. Or you can ring Lesley Henderson, Project Director, on 0300 365 3055 if you have any questions
